Mariposa
A note about the poem:
My publisher asked me to write about you more, and so I tried. It was just hard to get started. I can write about how I feel now because naturally it’s easier to describe your present emotions than to revert back. Then I saw the butterflies and remembered…
The name you gave me
In Greece they’re all that I see
Pairs, like you and me
Haikus aren’t really my thing; I don’t like writing my poems with a strict structure. You wrote me some though, an entire collection’s worth. So I thought I’d give it a try. I thought it would help me feel closer to you, to us. But I only feel a deeper wedge.
