Lift Yourself
What are you doing when you feel elevated? It varies for me. Sometimes it’s as simple as sipping my morning chai or as elaborate as skinny dipping with my boyfriend in a plunge pool in the midst of winter at Yosemite National Park. Being elevated isn’t about some intricate moment though, there’s too much pressure in that. To feel elevated is to feel that rush of pure joy when you’re doing something that feels good. When it happens, I can’t stop smiling.
The most important part of feeling elevated is being able to lift yourself up. This doesn’t mean you can’t share the experience though. It just means that in order to truly feel elevated, you should be able to find that within yourself first. It isn’t as easy as it sounds; I’m still working through maximizing the amount of time that I feel elevated.
It’s hard for me to do things alone. I didn’t even feel confident enough to walk alone until I got to college, and even then I’d feel insecure. Why though? There’s power in doing things alone. It doesn’t make you a loner, it doesn’t make you standoffish. It just means you’re by yourself in that given moment. Whether it’s going on a solo walk or taking myself out to lunch, I feel strong when I am okay doing those things on my own. When I engage with myself confidently, I feel elevated. What about you?
